The first few months of Montgomery Township’s Plan4Health initiative have focused on building the partnerships and resources needed to integrate health into future planning decisions. Rather than emphasizing a single project, this phase has been about creating a strong foundation for long-term success.
This quarter, the Township assembled a diverse planning committee representing local boards, community organizations, and public health interests to guide the initiative. Montgomery also released a Request for Proposals (RFP) to select a planning consultant and launched its Maptionnaire survey to gather valuable community input.
As planning has progressed, one of the most significant discoveries has been how naturally Plan4Health complements other initiatives already underway across the Township. Instead of functioning as a standalone effort, the initiative is helping shape a broader framework for incorporating health and wellness into planning decisions across departments.
The project has also prompted valuable reflection. Discussions about health-centered planning have encouraged the team to revisit past development decisions and consider how future neighborhoods can better support recreation, social connection, and overall well-being. This shift in perspective highlights the importance of considering health early in the planning process, ensuring that future projects create healthier, more connected communities.
Looking ahead, Montgomery is excited to build on this momentum through continued planning committee meetings, expanded promotion of the Maptionnaire survey, and additional community engagement opportunities. One highlight will be a summer activity inviting children to share their ideas about what would make Montgomery a healthier place to live, ensuring that residents of all ages help shape the Township’s vision for a healthier, more connected future.
